Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Elects New President and Board Officers.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy's 20th Annual Meeting & Showcase, a premiere event attended by thousands of managed care pharmacy professionals, opened at the San Francisco Convention Center at noon on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Nationally renowned keynote speakers, inauguration of the Academy's new officers and a gala achievement awards ceremony highlighted the many activities scheduled over the 4-day program. AMCP's array of outstanding educational sessions included innovative and diverse programming for managed care pharmacy and health care professionals.

New Academy Officers for 2008-2009

President - Cathryn (Cathy) A. Carroll, BS Pharm, MBA, PhD, became AMCP's 20th president. Dr. Carroll is currently a director of Pharmacy for Comprehensive Pharmacy Services, one of the nations leading pharmacy management companies, headquartered in Memphis, TN. She has a BS in Pharmacy and MBA from the University of Missouri Kansas City and an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Kansas. Dr. Carroll has been involved in AMCP for over 16 years. During this time she has served as Diplomat and supported the School of Pharmacy Relations Committee in multiple ways. Beginning in 2005, Dr. Carroll served a two year term as AMCP treasurer. In 2007, she was elected president-elect of AMCP and became a member of the FMCP Board of Trustees.

Shawn Burke, RPh, FAMCP, President-Elect - Shawn Burke is regional vice president, Pharmacy Services for Coventry Health Care, Inc., in Kansas City, Missouri. She is responsible for the management and delivery of the pharmacy benefit promoting rational, cost-effective and quality medication therapy management, as well as director of Residency and Student Programs. She has been active with AMCP since 1990 and served as member and chair on numerous AMCP committees, as well as a contributing editor and Editorial Advisory Board member for the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy. Burke was AMCP Treasurer in 1997, and in 2005, she became a Fellow of AMCP.

Three Directors Elected for Two-Year Terms

Jean Brown, RPh, PharmD, Director - Jean Brown is a clinical pharmacist with Coventry Priority Services, in Fountain Hills, Arizona, supporting Workers Comp Services, which involves Medical and Pharmacy Drug Use Evaluation and Drug Information to benefit the patient and health plans. Brown has been a member of the Academy since 1991, serving as a director on the Academy's board from 1998-2000, as a judge for the annual Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee Competition, and on several AMCP committees.

William Fleming, PharmD, Director - William Fleming is vice president of Pharmacy and Clinical Integration for Humana, Inc., in Louisville, Kentucky. He is responsible for all initiatives and strategies within Humana's pharmacy programs and its integration within the overall clinical model. Fleming has been a member since 1994. He served as a member and as chair of the Program Planning & Development Committee, and was most recently chair of the Legislative Committee.

Robert Gregory, RPh, MS, MBA, Director - Robert Gregory is a pharmacy director for Aetna Pharmacy Management in Hartford, Connecticut. He is responsible for the evaluation, development and implementation of clinical pharmacy programs. Gregory has been a member of the Academy since 1992, serving on the Legislative Committee and as a member and chair of the Professional Practice Committees.

Retaining their board positions are: Director Robert McMahan, PharmD, MBA, MATS, Director of Pharmacy, Fidelis Care, New York; Director Peter Penna, PharmD, president and co-founder of Formulary Resources, LLC; Treasurer C. E. (Gene) Reeder, RPh, PhD, Director, Managed Markets Insights & Tools, Xcenda, Columbia, South Carolina; and Judith A. Cahill, CEBS, executive director of AMCP, secretary to the board. Immediate Past President Richard A. Zabinski, PharmD, vice president of Pharmaceutical Solutions at OptumHealth, a division of UnitedHealth Group, will retain a seat on the board as chair.
