Academia.Academia: In its annual rankings of the world's top universities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Simplified Chinese: 上海交通大学; Traditional Chinese: 上海交通大學 has listed 17 US universities among the top 20 and 55 US universities among the top 100. Britain and Germany had the second greatest number of universities in the top 100 rankings with 10 and six, respectively. Japan, Canada and Sweden each had four universities within the top 100, while Australia, France and Switzerland each had three. The rankings are based only on research production and not on teaching.
