Abuzz Recognized At the 1999 Partnership Showcase for Work With Dante Alighieri Elementary School; Abuzz Brings Technology and the Internet to Students, Faculty and Parents.


CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1999--

Abuzz proudly announced that the company's efforts with Dante Alighieri Dante Alighieri (dăn`tē, Ital. dän`tā älēgyĕ`rē), 1265–1321, Italian poet, b. Florence. Dante was the author of the Divine Comedy, one of the greatest of literary classics.  Elementary School elementary school: see school.  were recognized yesterday during the 1999 Partnership Showcase event at the BankBoston Auditorium. Through their association with The Boston Private Industry Council, Abuzz has been working with students and faculty at Dante Alighieri Elementary School in East Boston to develop technology skills and capabilities for teaching and learning, as well as extending these skills beyond the classroom to include parent and community involvement. Abuzz will provide ongoing training and technical support to effectively bring technology into the everyday lives of these young students.

As part of its efforts, an Abuzz employee will actively participate on the school's Technology Committee and work with administrators to develop a school Web site that will provide each classroom with its own Web page, complete with parent access capabilities. Parents will also be trained on how to use the school's Web site to support their children's learning.

Abuzz has worked with the faculty and students at Dante Alighieri Elementary School since last year's NetDay, a citywide initiative with the goal of getting Boston schools on the Internet. "Abuzz's participation in this program has been enthusiastic and effective. We commend the founders and employees at Abuzz, who take a sincere interest in bringing technology to the young students of Boston," said John D. McCarthy, Chairman of the PIC Partnership Program.
