AbuZayd Warns Against the Gravity of the Human Situation in Gaza Strip and Israeli Practices in Jerusalem.

Damascus, (SANA) -- Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Karen Koning AbuZayd warned on Wednesday against the increasing gravity of the humane situation in Gaza Strip due to the continuing siege imposed by the Israeli occupation forces, which is preventing the entry of food and medicine to the Strip.During a press conference held at the UNRWA headquarters in Damascus, AbuZayd expressed the Agency's concern and fear over the consequences of intensifying the Israeli transgressions against holy sites in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly against al-Aqsa Mosque and the continuous attempts by Israeli occupation forces and settlers to storm it."The Palestinians want their legitimate rights guaranteed by all international and humane norms, laws and conventionsC* they are doing their best to make life seem normal to their children," she said.AbuZayd noted that the Agency is facing difficulties with financing projects to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians, adding that the Palestinian refugees' ability to achieve self-reliance and self-sufficiency over sixty years helped the Agency to continue helping them.She also lauded the remarkable role of Syria's government and people in supporting the Palestinian refugees, stressing that Syria was a forerunner in cooperating with UNRWA and that it is a model for countries hosting Palestinian refugees.During her current visit to Syria, which is her last as UNRWA Commissioner-General, AbuZayd inaugurated the first stage of the project for rehabilitating Nayrab camp in Aleppo, in addition to opening new facilities at Sbaina camp in Damascus countryside.H.
