RADICAL Muslim cleric Abu Hamza could be charged with terrorist offences in Britain within weeks.

The Metropolitan Police have passed a file to the Crown Prosecution Service, which will decide at the start of next month whether to charge him under the Terrorism Act.

Hamza, 47, was arrested last month over allegations that he provided support to al-Qaidainspired terrorists either through finance, recruiting or logistics.

He was later de-arrested but the investigation was not dropped and the police advice file was passed to Crown Prosecution Service lawyers.

Hamza is already facing extradition to the United States to face 11 terrorism charges there.

In a hearing at Bow Street Court yesterday, Treasury counsel Hugo Keith said the British investigation was continuing and a decision on charging Hamza would be taken soon.
