As many as 250 jaywalkers were fined in two hours on the Zayed First Street and Shaikh Hamdan Street on Thursday, police said. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Dahi, Head of the Traffic Police Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Department, said the traffic police have launched a campaign under the slogan 'Pedestrian safety is a collective responsibility' to spread awareness about proper road behaviour and the need to use places designated for pedestrians. "Some people do not use pedestrian bridges and crossings, rather they choose to cross at random places. This is a dangerous practice and causes accidents," Lieutenant Colonel Dahi said, emphasising the need for pedestrians to follow traffic rules.
