In its initial $3.5 bn phase, DEL is to supply 2,000 MCF/d of Qatari gas to the UAE. Through DEL's projects, Sh. Muhammad - who is chairman of MDC and of several other institutions - and some of his full-brothers involved in MDC-related businesses have become close to the ruling al-Thani family in Qatar and Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry, Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah. In the address, delivered on his behalf by Sa'id bin Jabr al-Suweidi, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Deputy chairman of ADIPEC, Sh. Muhammad added that the event positioned itself as a major destination for decision-makers and key people in these industries and had witnessed many business deals to become a window for the latest technological developments in these two vital sectors. "The UAE has transformed itself in a short period of time to become a beacon for social and economic development in the region by building a sustainable economic model based on traditional values while incorporating modernity", said Sh. The increase in the number of participants was 22%, as compared to 2002, and reached 1,209 companies. Sh. ADIPEC 2004 was the only show where the big national oil companies, oil and gas services companies in addition to specialised companies that support and provide value-added services to the oil and gas sectors were brought together under one roof. This has helped ADIPEC to emerge as the '"Total Oil & Gas Show'". Sh. Muhammad told reporters during his tour of ADIPEC, which he formally opened on Oct. 10, 2004: "We will invest the additional earnings from [high] oil prices to further develop the health and educational sectors". Sh. Muhammad said "the exhibition affects the oil industry in the region" due to the big profits the industry makes from such a big gathering of oil specialists. He was accompanied on the tour of the various pavilions at the exhibition ground by a number of shaikhs, ministers and senior officials. ADIPEC 2006 was a similarly big event. |
