Abseil task a winner.

POLICE cadets faced a tough challenge when they embarked on an abseil - free falling 75ft from Guisborough Viaduct viaduct (vī`ədŭkt') [Lat.,=road conveyor], type of bridge for carrying a highway or railroad over a valley, over low ground, or over a road. .

Cleveland Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing the area of former county of Cleveland in North East England.
 Volunteer Cadets Programme is a new youth engagement programme with units running in every borough.

Open to 13 to 19-year-olds the cadets have been developing social skills, team work and learning more about the police and their community in the 18 weeks the programme has been running.

In recognition of dedication and hard work the 16 young people enjoyed a team building event provided by Redcar and Cleveland Youth Service.

PC Terry Woods, Volunteer Unit Instructor, said the young men and women took control of their fears to carry out the task under the guidance and control of Dave Griffiths, the Redcar and Cleveland Council outdoor activity co-ordinator.

They successfully carried out a number of descents from the top of the viaduct, and some even walked down the wall with arms outstretched looking down.
