The Capital Club Bahrain, the Kingdom's premier private business club, recently invited its members to an exclusive business lunch forum with a presentation by Tom Speechley, Executive Director, Abraaj Capital, under the theme of "The World As We See It." The inaugural event was sponsored by Abraaj Capital -- a regional leader in private equity.

Capital Club Bahrain governors, members and dignitaries gathered in Al Ghazal Hall, Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa to hear Abraaj Capital present its analysis of the causes of the global economic crisis and how the Middle East region may be further impacted, as well as a discussion of the opportunities emerging from the economic changes that are occurring in the region and beyond.

Speaking at the business lunch, Tom Speechley said, "At Abraaj Capital, we are committed to an increasing thought leadership role in the region. We therefore wanted to share our views on the possible sources and outcomes of the current economic crisis with the members of the Capital Club Bahrain to provide some strategic perspective for the future."

During the lively group discussion, moderated by Fred Sicre, a Governor of the Capital Club, members from a range of sectors including bankers, lawyers, real estate, government and healthcare decision-makers exchanged ideas on ways to manage the current economic situation and grow the region's economy.

"The economic crisis is having an unquestionable impact on the lives of Capital Club members, the majority of which are CEO's or presidents of some of Bahrain's leading businesses," said David Williamson, General Manger of the Capital Club Bahrain. "Abraaj Capital and Tom Speechley have provided considerable insight into the causes of the crisis, but also highlighted why this region 's economic situation is better than much of the rest of the world."

Tom Speechley is an Executive Director in the investment team at Abraaj Capital, focusing in buy-outs and other forms of investment. He is also responsible for new product development. Mr Speechley has worked in private equity since the early 1990's and has completed over 50 buy-outs. His colleague Frederic Sicre is responsible for business development and is the former Managing Director of the Geneva based World Economic Forum.Abraaj Capital is the premier investment firm specializing in private equity investments in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) region.
