AboveNet Communications Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metromedia Fiber Network, Inc. (Nasdaq:MFNX) and the architect of a global one-hop network that brings together high-bandwidth content sites, ISPs, and Application Service Providers in centralized co-location facilities, today announced the opening of its New York Internet Service Exchange (ISX) facility. Located in the Chelsea area -- the crossroads of New York City's financial and telecommunications districts -- this new facility will provide secure, fault-tolerant co-location services and superior Internet connectivity to businesses requiring fast, reliable Internet performance, including the large number of financial services firms and Fortune 500 companies in the New York area, as well as the fast growing number of Internet-centric companies sprouting up in New York's Silicon Alley.

Access to the servers in these cabinets is gained through the use of a proximity card and a keyed-in personal identification number.

The new facility is the third AboveNet ISX in the United States and will be connected by broadband fiber optic infrastructure, from Metromedia Fiber Network, to AboveNet's other East Coast ISX facility located in Vienna, Virginia.
