Abortion rates rise.
Latest figures from the Family Planning Association in Northern Ireland show an estimated 1,000 people coming from Northern Ireland and around 2,000 travelling from the Republic.
Women travel to Liverpool for private abortions to escape severe restrictions in both Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Liverpool has long been a favoured destination because of the ferry link with Ireland and this has been reinforced by cheap flights between Liverpool and Belfast.
The estimated numbers are double the 1,000 women who came to pregnancy advisory service BPAS in Merseyside last year.
