Abitibi-Consolidated to Take Downtime at Its Fort Frances Mill.

 ABY.) Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. announced today that its groundwood specialties papers mill located at Fort Frances Fort Frances, town (1991 pop. 8,891), SW Ont., Canada, on Rainy River, opposite International Falls, Minn. It is chiefly a lumbering center with sawmills and a pulp and paper factory. Tourism is also an important industry, with abundant fishing and hunting nearby.  (Ontario) will take downtime The time during which a computer is not functioning due to hardware, operating system or application program failure.  to balance Company inventory.

Production will be shut down from July 13 to July 21, 1997 on machines Nos. 5, 6 and 7, representing downtime of 5,900 tonnes. The kraft mill will continue operations.

To date in 1997, including this production curtailment, the Company has taken downtime at its uncoated groundwood installations amounting to approximately 53,000 tonnes, to balance its inventory and for capital maintenance. The Company has also taken approximately 53,300 tonnes of downtime at its newsprint production facilities since January 1, and continues to assess prevailing market conditions.
