AUSTIN, Texas -- Abington Memorial Hospital (Abington) is improving network performance using NetQoS(R) Inc.'s SuperAgent(R) and ReporterAnalyzer(TM), the end-to-end performance monitoring and traffic analysis modules of the NetQoS Performance Center.

"Before deploying the NetQoS products, we were reactive to network issues," said Don Arnold, senior network analyst at Abington. "Now, SuperAgent and ReporterAnalyzer allow us to be proactive at monitoring our network by providing visibility into our VLAN traffic so that we can easily determine what is causing slowdowns."

Abington, a not-for-profit hospital in Abington, Pa., has a large-scale hosting environment spanning hundreds of virtual local area networks (VLANs) that deliver critical clinical and administrative applications. With NetQoS SuperAgent and ReporterAnalyzer, the network team can now see the composition of network traffic and how it is impacting application performance, measure application response times, and isolate the cause of problems to the network, server or application.

With SuperAgent, Abington is able to monitor end user response times for key applications and pinpoint the source of problems for faster resolution. SuperAgent measures application response times for all user transactions, compares response times against normal baselines, and automatically investigates the cause of performance problems as they occur. SuperAgent isolates performance problems to the application, network, or server, minimizing fingerpointing between IT groups and facilitating rapid troubleshooting. Better collaboration between the application, network and server groups was one of Abington's main goals, according to Arnold, and SuperAgent has helped them achieve it.

With ReporterAnalyzer, Abington now has real-time visibility into 100 percent of enterprise-wide network traffic as well as access to 13 months of historical data. By knowing which applications and users are consuming bandwidth, and when, Abington is able to make informed network troubleshooting and capacity planning decisions.

Abington also uses ReporterAnalyzer's Flow Forensics feature, which tracks 100 percent of all flow traffic on the network to identify denial of service attacks, port scanning, or unauthorized server activity. Because ReporterAnalyzer finds security breaches that may elude Abington's security system, the network team runs a Flow Forensics scan at least twice a week.

NetQoS SuperAgent and ReporterAnalyzer data are integrated in customizable views in the NetQoS Performance Center, a Web-based management portal that helps organizations be more effective in capacity planning, troubleshooting, and service level management.
