Ability to lead others is a critical skill: Jabbar.

KARACHI, June 27, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Engr. M. A. Jabbar Chairman S.I.T.E. Association of Industry speaking in National Institute of Labour Administration Training (NILAT) on the theme Participative Management and Productivity said that the linkage between productivity and participative management have to be understood in the broad perspective Engr. M. A. Jabbar who was invited as a Chief Guest to address the participants of the course, said that the participants should appraise their own rating as to what level they have been benefited. He said that the ability to lead others is a critical skill and leader ship is especially important in todays increasing complex and dynamic environment. He said that objectives of the course should be designed to let the participants understand that what is participative management and how it effects and enhances productivity through establishment of cohesive working relations. Engr M A Jabbar Adding to his arguments, said that the whole perspective of participative management should be seen as love for the job and to act with responsibility compounded by best skill through liking the job as the choice and not doing the job as otherwise imposed. He while referring to the WB report said that productivity of Chinese labour comparing to the working in similar conditions for a Pakistani manpower is 160% more. He referred to the dilemma of the society and said that entry in particular trade employment is not by one s choice but is influenced by the available market space in another trade and the level of lucrative job everybody is hunting for. He gave example that engineers and doctors are serving as police and district revenue officers and even one sees doctors in the excise and taxation department collecting the motor vehicle tax. Engr. M. A. Jabbar said that the industry now a day prefers to make self corrections because the cost in competency and its erosion with need to improve the quality have created reasons for seeking self improvements in the industry. The self adjustment is through encouraging participative management in which the skill, hard work and efficiency is rewarded by the industrial employer. The increase in the participative management for human capital in the industry is not on the basis of counting number of years as is the practice in public sector. He said that public sector promotions are subject of passing arithmetic number of years irrespective of efficiency, hard work and wisdom. Private sector does not promote people on the basis of years but the promotions are subject of as what participative role of the employee has towards improving the productivity. Engr M A Jabbar added to say that the exporters under the fierce cost and quality competition are now enforcing quality management systems. The foreign buyers are also pressing the exporters to make social compliances otherwise they would prefer to outsource their materials from other countries or from those in Pakistan who would make social compliances of 8000 series. The industry is now managing ISO certifications, social responsibility certifications and these are called self correction against the prevalent trends in the globe. Mr. Zaman Labour Leader also spoke on the occasion and by comparing the Japanese model which he has experienced, he said that they are committal and that is the difference between our manpower and theirs. We should also have commitment to the end results for which we are hired in the industry.Col. Muhammad Khalil Zikria CI Ordinance School speaking on the occasion on behalf of the participants army officers said that the officers selected by them are the best to benefit from the courses organized by NILAT and he paid gratitude for the same to the ministry of labour. Director General NILAL Abdul Kareem Ansari speaking on vote of thanks said that he would be grateful to Engr. M. A. Jabbar for sparing time on short notice for delivering his lecture, giving concluding remarks for the closing the ceremony and distribution the certificates among participants.
