Abilities Expo/Texas Opens in Houston This Weekend - December 9 - 11, 2005.

 -- Abilities Expo/Texas is the one show dedicated to educating and improving the lives of people with disabilities, senior citizens, their families & caregivers, as well as healthcare and education professionals. The three-day event three-day event

 will take place for the first time in Texas at the George R. Brown Convention Center The George R. Brown Convention Center was opened on September 26, 1987 on the east side of downtown Houston. The center was named for the prominent Houstonian George R. Brown, an entrepreneur, civic leader and philanthropist.  in Houston starting today, Friday, December 9 and continuing through Sunday, December 11, 2005. Some of the show highlights include:

--Attendees will have a chance to discover and learn about new products and services - from computers to athletic equipment and mobility products to daily living aids - all conveniently displayed to see, test and compare. Exhibiting companies include Daimler Chrysler Dodge, Christopher and Dana Reeve Dana Reeve (March 17 1961 – March 6 2006) was an American actress, singer, and activist for disability causes. --Local and regionally based organizations that work with people with disabilities will also be participating including Houston Center for Independent Living and the Lone Star Lone Star (or Lonestar) may refer to:

 Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a United States-based non-profit organization, and its network of chapters nationwide promote research, educate, advocate on issues relating to multiple sclerosis, and organize a wide range of programs, including support for the newly  to name a few.

--The educational curriculum focuses on relevant topics addressing life today for individuals with disabilities, their family and caregivers. The comprehensive workshop programs will consist of consumer and professional tracks, with certificates of participation available to students, and education and healthcare professionals. Course topics include Rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy.  After Catastrophic Injury or Illness; How to Select the Right Vehicle for You; EasyLiving Home Texas; Parent to Parent on Early Childhood Special Needs; Using the Social Security Work Incentives can be Your Ticket to Work; and others.

--Special show services will be available for attendees including Complimentary Wheelchair Repair provided by Hands on Concepts. Loaner Wheelchairs will be provided by Permobil. For People with Visual Impairments Visual Impairment Definition

Total blindness is the inability to tell light from dark, or the total inability to see. Visual impairment or low vision is a severe reduction in vision that cannot be corrected with standard glasses or contact lenses and
, there will be special workshops and exhibitor information handouts available in large type. For People with Hearing Impairments, there will be a sign language interpreter available to assist persons who are deaf or hearing impaired, for a reasonable length of time per person.
