Building its focus on the convergence of voice and data on the enterprise network, Aberdeen launches the Next-Generation Call Center Infrastructure and Operations practice and the Networked Multimedia practice. Two new analysts will lead Aberdeen's Service Provider and Enterprise Networking The networking infrastructure in a large enterprise with multiple computer systems and networks of different types is extraordinarily complex. Due to the myriad of interfaces that are required, much of what goes on has little to do with the real data processing of the payroll and orders.  practices.

"Networking and telecommunications suppliers are touting the virtues of converging voice and data on a single network, which makes sense from a tariff savings and management perspective. By expanding our group, we are now better enabled to help enterprises determine whether networks - both enterprise and carrier - are ready for convergence and help them plan to get there," said Virginia Brooks, Aberdeen Group Vice President.

Led by Senior Analyst David Dines, Aberdeen's new Next-Generation Call Center Infrastructure and Operations practice examines the key technologies and market forces shaping this dynamic segment, where voice, data, customer-facing applications, the Internet, and customer interaction. Areas of investigation include the adoption of IP telephony The two-way transmission of voice over a packet-switched IP network, which is part of the TCP/IP protocol suite. The terms "IP telephony" and "voice over IP" (VoIP) are synonymous. , integrated Web connectivity (Web navigation and co-navigation), e-mail processing, chat hosting, click-to-call buttons, voice gateways to the Internet, and new computer telephony integration Computer Telephony Integration - Computer Telephone Integration  (CTI (Computer Telephone Integration) Combining data with voice systems in order to enhance telephone services. For example, automatic number identification (ANI) allows a caller's records to be retrieved from the database while the call is routed to the appropriate party. ) functionality. This practice has launched a multi-client study focusing on when and why call centers will adopt converged voice/data technology infrastructure.

Dines will also lead Aberdeen's new Networked Multimedia practice that covers communications technologies such as videoconferencing, streaming video A one-way video transmission over a data network. It is widely used on the Web as well as company networks to play video clips and video broadcasts. Computers in home networks stream video to digital media hubs connected to a home theater.  and audio, and dataconferencing. Helping to guide end-users through the planning for and selection of multimedia applications, this practice tracks the dynamics of the multimedia marketplace and the technology advances required to enable multimedia transmission on IP networks.

Aberdeen welcomes George Peabody, Managing Director, to lead its Service Provider practice, which covers telecommunications carriers, ISPs, and Application Service Providers. A native Bostonian, Peabody returns home from Rapid City, SD, where he was Founding Partner and Director of Corporate Services Activities that combine or consolidate certain enterprise-wide needed support services, provided based on specialized knowledge, best practices, and technology to serve internal (and sometimes external) customers and business partners.  of RapidNet, a regional ISP (1) See in-system programmable.
