In a recent fire, a curse rises quickly to haunt the living, so Emma tries to trace that "spirit" to its beginning over 100 years back in time.  since no such phenomenon supposedly exists. Yet when she tells high-level psychics about it, they dismiss her and even question any ability she might have. Nevertheless, with the help of "normal" interested friends--and, reluctantly, her mother--Emma keeps digging back, putting her own very-present life in danger.

Abbey does a good job making this genre believable and fun. The characters are generally well developed, and the plot takes interesting twists to sustain the reader's interest. A subtle message about family and friends, and belief in one another, complements the ghost hunting Ghost hunting is the process of investigating locations said to be haunted. Typically, a ghost "hunting party" will involve 4-8 individuals who work as a team to collect evidence of paranormal activity.  nicely. Dr. Lesley Farmer, Lib.
