Abaco's Varadero thin-client application server and software development kit.

Under the terms of the agreement, Symbol will enable Abaco's Varadero on their line of mobile computing Using a computing device while in transit. Mobile computing implies wireless transmission, but wireless transmission does not necessarily imply mobile computing. Fixed wireless applications use satellites, radio systems and lasers to transmit between permanent objects such as buildings  products, including the PPT 2740 model. The agreement also outlines how Abaco's Varadero product line will be available to all Symbol customers and channel partners through Symbol's new software e-commerce website.

Abaco's Varadero is a thin-client application server and software development kit that contains components for building full-featured enterprise data collection applications that includes the new generation of Windows-powered Pocket PC-based automated au·to·mate

and users will enjoy full connectivity and low power consumption through Varadero's wireless framework architecture."

Varadero uses less than 100K of space on the device, enables full use of Visual Basic for development and handles multiple sessions communicating to multiple servers, providing the user with a tool kit to develop applications quickly, cost-efficiently and easily, with minimal space requirements. Additionally, each time a unit checks into the network server, version control enables the device to immediately upload See download.

"Symbol is committed to supporting innovative solutions that enhance the functionality of our products," said Keith Kanneg, senior director of Symbol's software marketing business unit. "Abaco's Varadero wireless architecture for the thin client environment is a powerful development framework that will enable our clients to develop complete data collection solutions quickly and easily."

"Varadero, taking full advantage of the benefits of the Pocket PC platform for the wireless world, is a perfect fit for our line of mobile computing devices," said Kanneg. "Abaco continues to deliver superior wireless solutions to the enterprise and Symbol is proud to have them as a technology partner."

"Abaco is excited to have Symbol's distribution channels reselling Varadero," said Alvarez. "Varadero, as a wireless software development framework for ultra-thin client applications, combined with the power of Symbol's mobile units, adds a powerful value proposition to the channel and, ultimately, to the customer."

The agreement comes on the heels of Microsoft's Pocket PC Launch where Abaco and Symbol were recently chosen to demonstrate the power of the Pocket PC with a Varadero application deployed on a Symbol PPT 2740 device. Abaco's Varadero also holds the distinction of being the first ultra thin-client solution developed specifically for wireless applications.
