), the world's leader in thermal management for power and digital electronics, announced its solutions for today's popular ZIF socket (Zero Insertion Force socket) A type of socket designed for easy insertion of pin grid array (PGA) chips. The chip is easily dropped into the socket's holes, and a lever is pulled down to lock it in.  microprocessors. Aavid designed its newest microprocessor cooler as a drop-in solution that works with Intel(R), Cyrix(R), AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips.  device that is then placed in a socket on a motherboard. Aavid's new low-cost solution (Product No. 029629) offers a universal fan heat sink solution that meets industry standards and will work for 90% of all applications at the required price points."

The fan uses a dual feed through four-pin connector which connects easily to the power supply. The fan has a reliability of 20,000 hours (continuous) in the application and Aavid guarantees performance for one full year. For higher fan life and different connector options, please contact the factory.

Aavid's solution attaches to the socket with a clip (Product No. 116700F00000), which has been a cornerstone product to the PC industry since the beginning of Pentium processors. A locking rail is an important feature of this heat sink as it further reduces movement during the worst environmental conditions.

Aavid includes a phase change interface material to bridge the gap between the CPU and the heat sink to ensure robust thermal performance. An easy to remove pull tab improves assembly time and protects the material from dust and debris during shipping.

Pricing and Availability

Aavid's fan heat sink with clips and interface material are available now for $3.57 a unit for quantities of 10,000 FOB FOB 1) adj. short for Free on Board, meaning shipped to a specific place without cost. 2) Friend of Bill (Clinton).
