Aavid Announces Pocket Cooler Active Thermal Solution for Power IC's and BGA Chips.

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1998--

New Solution Offers High Reliability to Help Lengthen Product Life Cycles

Today at Computex Taipei COMPUTEX Taipei, or Taipei International Information Technology Show (Traditional Chinese: 台北國際電腦展 , Aavid Thermal Products, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aavid Thermal Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:AATT AATT Advanced Air Transportation Technologies (NASA air traffic control project)

), the world's leader in thermal management for power and digital electronics, announced a new family of fan heat sinks - Pocket Coolers(tm) - optimized to cool Ball Grid Array “BGA” redirects here. For other uses, see BGA (disambiguation).

A ball grid array (BGA) is a type of surface-mount packaging used for integrated circuits.

) recommendations.

Aavid's initially available 3680 solution provides a 1.5(degree)C degree per watt performance in a highly reliable, low profile fan heat sink. Applications include cooling microprocessors, chip sets, upgrading existing passive BGA heat sinks, and spot cooling hot IC's (integrated circuits Integrated circuits

) in a variety of industries including computer, automotive, and telecommunications.

"This new solution answers a demand in the marketplace for an active, low profile heat sink delivering high performance and reliability," said Christopher Chapman, computer industry manager for Aavid Thermal Products. "This family of solutions is ideal for retvofitting IC's, where spot cooling is necessary."

Pocket Cooler heat sinks are light-weight solutions, with product heights measuring between 7mm to 15mm. To ensure product reliability in harsh environments, the fan used on this product has a minimum life of 50,000 hours at 25(degree)C. Aavid's Pocket Cooler solution offers low profile assembly and allows fast installation to IC's through the use of a common two-pin connector. Customers have the option of purchasing the heat sink with or without a pre-applied interface material.

Pocket Cooler Features

Three Pocket Cooler product offerings are available. The first is the 3680 heat sink which is recommended for Socket 7 CPU CPU

These brass fasteners are excellent in very rigorous shock and vibration environments. The 3682 is a low profile fan blower a wheel with vanes fixed on a rotating shaft inclosed in a case or chamber, to create a blast of air (fan blast) for forge purposes, or a current for draft and ventilation; a fanner.
