will proceed regardless of whether it receives financing from
international financial institutions. Some non-governmental
organisations have lobbied against official financing for the pipeline
on environmental and social grounds. But Lord Browne says work on the
pipeline is proceeding according to the best available standards
required for such financing. The private companies involved in the
Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan project could, if necessary, raise the $1.5 bn sought
in financing from the World Bank, International Finance Corporation,
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
