AXIS Capital Appoints Sir Andrew Large to Its Board as an Independent Director.

: AXS) today announced that the Company's Board of Directors has appointed Sir Andrew Large to its Board as an independent director. Sir Andrew Large will serve as a Class I Director and will serve on the Board until 2009.

Sir Andrew Large, 64, recently retired as Deputy Governor for Financial Stability at the Bank of England Bank of England, central bank and note-issuing institution of Great Britain. Popularly known as the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street, its main office stands on the street of that name in London.  and member of the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee. Prior to his appointment to the Bank of England in September 2002, he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Barclays Bank plc from May 1998 when he also chaired the Group of 30 Project on Clearing and Settlement. He was an investment banker from 1970 through 1990 at Orion Bank and Swiss Bank Corporation
