As previously announced, AXENT recorded a one-time charge to earnings during the quarter of $27,632,000 for in-process research and development costs as a result of the acquisition of AssureNet Pathways, Inc. As a result of this one-time charge, for the three months ended March 31, 1997, loss from continuing operations (including one-time charge) was $(26,858,000), or $(2.12) per share, compared to income from continuing operations of $83,000, or $0.01 per share for the same three-month period of 1996.
