Palmdale Sheriff's Station commander Capt. John Witt introduced Miklos, who was recognized for his crime-prevention efforts and other work. Miklos is currently a field training officer and was recently promoted to sergeant. Miklos is best known for earning two consecutive gold medals for the ``Toughest Competitor Alive'' at the World Police and Fire games The World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) are a biennial athletic event open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the world. The WPFG Federation is an arm of the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF), a U.S. organisation. . Andria Witmer introduced Wheeler, a field training officer. The city also honored two ``Outstanding Public Safety Practitioner of the Year'' award recipients. Davis, introduced by Building and Safety Director Shane Walter, who heads up the department's housing and compliance division and is part of the city's Partners Against Crime program with the Sheriff's Department. Long, introduced by Public Safety Administrator Anne Ambrose, handles the overall coordination of the Partners Against Crime program. Cook was honored for his work with the Partners Against Crime team. His was the first recognition by the city of a person who is an employee of an outside agency that is part of the PAC team. Mayor Jim Ledford presented the awards. Representatives from the offices of Rep. Howard P. ``Buck'' McKeon, the late Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight, Assemblywoman Sharon Runner and Supervisor Michael Antonovich were also on hand to present certificates to the award recipients. |
