AWARDS FOR 'LIFESAVERS'.


SCORES of people who have donated large amounts of blood are set to get together tonight to mark their lifesaving achievements.

Paul McElkerney, from the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion blood transfusion, transfer of blood from one person to another, or from one animal to another of the same species. A total of 7,000 lives have been saved, thanks to the group donating almost 15,000 units between them, equivalent to more than 50 units each.

Donor Services general manager Charles Kinney said: "Hopefully by highlighting the achievement of these donors it will encourage others aged between 17 and 65 years of age to come forward."
