AWARD OFFERED IN CREDIT UNION HEIST.

Byline: Karen Maeshiro Daily News Staff Writer

Edwards Federal Credit Union announced Friday that it is offering a $4,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of two armed men who robbed the credit union's Lancaster office.

Credit union officials hope the reward - $2,000 for each robber - will help spur the public into helping authorities snag the suspects, who left money scattered Scattered

The FBI released descriptions of the suspects on Friday. One of the robbers was described as an African-American male, age 18 to 20, 5 feet 10 to 6 feet tall, weighing between 155 and 160 pounds, of a thin to medium build, and wearing a black jacket with the word ``security'' on the back in white letters. He was armed with a .357-caliber revolver revolver: see small arms.

The second suspect was described as a Latino male, age 18 to 19, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9, and weighing between 145 to 150 pounds, FBI agent Charles Empey said.

The robbers - one wearing a red ski mask, the other in a purple ski mask - carried a handgun and rifle into the credit union branch on 10th Street West at Avenue J-4 shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The robbers gave orders for a manager to open the vault. Other employees, as well as customers, were ordered to lie down on the floor, officials said.

The robbers were last seen driving east on Avenue J-4 in a two-door Honda with a sunroof, Empey said.

The car, which had been reported stolen five days earlier in Lancaster, was found in an alley east of Beech beech, common name for the Fagaceae, a family of trees and shrubs mainly of temperate and subtropical regions in the Northern Hemisphere. A bundle of money was left in the car, and some of it was dropped outside the car. ``We believe they got out of the first car, jumped over a block wall and entered a switch vehicle,'' Empey said.
