AW Computer Systems begins live CPA Pilot.MOUNT LAUREL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996--AW Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:AWCSA) today announced that its new Checker Productivity Analyzer ("CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000. ") is in live pilot in a store of a leading U.S. supermarket chain. The CPA pilot began operation with non-empty cart detection. As each follow-on function, such as slide and substitute detection become operational, they will also be turned on. Operations will initially be limited to twelve hours a day to allow testing of color control filtering during the brightest part of the day. CPA incorporates machine vision technology and is designed to improve accuracy and efficiency at supermarket checkout counters. The system verifies that the visual images of the merchandise being sold matches the characteristics of the merchandise that was scanned. CPA produces digital video recordings of any discrepancies for management's review. The result and improvement in accuracy enhance store profitability.
