AVTA PICKS NEW TRANSFER LOCATION RIDERS TO CHANGE BUSES NEAR MALL.

Byline: Daily News

PALMDALE - The Antelope Valley Transit Authority Antelope Valley Transit Authority is the transit agency serving the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster and their suburbs. Antelope Valley Transit Authority is operated under contract by Veolia Transport, and is affiliated and offers connecting services with Metro and Metrolink.  will shift its Palmdale bus transfer location next week to a stop near the Antelope Valley Mall The Antelope Valley Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Palmdale, California.

Opened in September, 1990, its buildings take up around 1 million square feet (90,000 m²). Its physical main building, parking lots, and ring road businesses encompass an area a bit less than 0.

The shift to 15th Street West near Avenue O-8 will take place Dec. 13, officials said. Benches, shelters, sidewalks and landscaping will be complete by then, officials said.

``It's kind of an interim step. We're kind of incrementally moving toward the bigger solution,'' Randy Floyd, AVTA AVTA Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity  planning manager, said last week.

The ultimate solution is shifting the bus transfer location to the planned Palmdale Metrolink station, which is due to start construction soon and is expected to be finished next winter.

The temporary change will answer complaints from bus riders about the lack of a drinking fountain, a telephone and restrooms at the present Palmdale bus transfer location on Trade Center Drive, where it had been moved last summer from the Antelope Valley Mall parking lot.

The transfer location moved out of the mall parking lot after complaints from mall officials about loitering Loitering (IPA pronunciation: ['lɔɪtəˌrɪŋ] is an intransitive verb meaning to stand idly, to stop numerous times, or to delay and procrastinate.  and traffic congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.

Passengers traveling on Route 2 on Palmdale Boulevard and Route 3 on Avenue R will now transfer in downtown Palmdale, at 10th East and Palmdale Boulevard, to continue on to Lancaster on Route 1.

Routes 2 and 3 will no longer go on to the transfer location, which had made the buses continually fall behind schedule, Floyd said.

Route 1 will also change its path to continue on Palmdale Boulevard to 10th Street West, rather than turning up 10th Street East to Avenue Q and Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. Beginning this week, bus drivers will make announcements to their passengers about the route and transfer location changes, AVTA officials said.

New time schedules and route maps featuring all service changes and additions are expected to be available today.

AVTA employees will be stationed next week at key locations - including the Palmdale Senior Citizens Center, the new Palmdale transfer center and the Trade Center Drive location - to explain the new routes.

AVTA riders should call (661) 945-9445 with routing and scheduling questions.
