AVP tour reaches pact with NBC-TV.

The NBC-TV network and the Association of Volleyball Professionals have reached a three-year agreement in which NBC Sports will broadcast live selected tournaments on the Miller Lite/AVP tour beginning this later this summer.

The agreement, which represents the largest commitment ever by a broadcast network to professional volleyball, was announced by Ken Schanzer, executive vice president, NBC Sports, and Jon Stevenson, president, AVP.

In addition to the broadcast pact with NBC, Stevenson also announced the World Professional Beach Volleyball Championships will be held in the United States for the first time on September 7. The world championships is one of three events to be broadcast this year by NBC.

"Professional beach volleyball and the Miller Lite/AVP tour have grown in size and popularity over the past several years, and our new agreement with NBC will result in greater awareness of the sport among sports fans throughout the country," reported Stevenson.

"This new agreement with NBC further reinforces the commitment Miller has made to the growth of professional beach volleyball," explained Kevin Wulff, director of event marketing, Miller. "Miller is in its second decade of sponsoring the professional beach volleyball tour, and earlier this year we announced an agreement with the AVP which extends our sponsorship through the 1993 season."
