AVIATION PAINTINGS A SOARING SUCCESS AT SCV GALLERY.

In a display directed by Richard Douglass, works by noted aviation artist Mike Machat are being shown at the B & R Gallery in Canyon Country.

Joseph credits Douglass with the expansion of the aerospace collection, including prints, at the gallery.

``Air Force planes would fly over our house, and I liked it,'' he said.

Earning a pilot's license at 19, Douglass spent six years in the U.S. Navy, flying for two years in the Far East and then being stationed in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. .

The aviator said he has been researching the history of hot-air balloons and hopes soon to write books on the subject.
