AVENGERS DON'T FEEL RIGHT AT HOME NEW YORK STUNS TURNOVER-PLAGUED LOS ANGELES IN LATE GOING NEW YORK 70, AVENGERS 61.

Not much has gone right this year for the Avengers, who watched an already disappointing season go completely sour in recent weeks after losing four consecutive road games to fall into last place in the Western Division.

And the unfortunate news didn't end there.

The Avengers defense created three turnovers of its own, but New York quarterback Nick Browder rebounded well, finishing 28 of 40 for 359 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the Dragons (8-5). Browder took advantage of a Cumbie interception in the final minute to connect with Mike Horacek on a 15-yard pass with three seconds remaining.

Cumbie's two interceptions came after he had gone a team-record 212 passing attempts spanning more than four games without a interception.

"The players are going to have to come together and find a way to win," said Avengers' coach Ed Hodgkiss.

"We have to continue to play hard and figure this one out as a team. They're playing hard. Our intensity is not the problem."

The Avengers appeared excited to be home early in the first quarter, when defensive specialist Damen Wheeler stripped Horacek just two yards from the goal line and ultimately recovered to give Los Angeles its first possession.

The Avengers drove 48 yards over the next two minutes to take a 7-0 lead on a 17-yard run by Lonnie Ford.

Hopkins' fumble came on the Avengers' next possession, as he coughed up the ball on the 1-yard line to Dragons defensive lineman Andrew Tippins, who hurdled an Avengers player before putting New York ahead 13-7 late in the first with a 49-yard return.

 in the fumble-riddled first half, Avengers defensive lineman Trevor Hutton forced Browder to fumble in his own end zone, where defensive lineman Maurice Anderson recovered for the Avengers, who took a 24-20 lead on the play and held on to lead 31-27 at halftime.
