LANCASTER- With bids coming in under estimate, Lancaster officials expect to be able award a contract next month for the widening of the Avenue L overpass, providing relief for Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  motorists.

The bid will go to the City Council at its Sept. 12 meeting.

The existing two-lane overpass will be expanded to six lanes and a second bridge constructed.

``It will be seamless where it comes together,'' Long said.

Work could begin as early as October. The project is expected to take approximately 14 months to complete.

The overpass is one of two major overpass projects the city has in the works. The second project, in the planning stages, is to widen the Avenue H overpass from two lanes to six.

That project will also involve widening the off-ramps from one to two lanes each. That project is projected to cost $7.7 million.
