AVC TRUSTEES APPOINT TWO NEW VPS.

LANCASTER - Two California community college administrators were named as Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  vice presidents following a nationwide search.

College trustees on Monday night appointed Sharon A. Lowry as vice president of academic affairs and William J. Benjamin as vice president of human resources. The appointments are effective July 1.

``We're very excited about the future of the college with your leadership,'' trustee Betty Wienke said to the new vice presidents.

Lowry and Benjamin join Vice President of Student Services Rosa Hall in filling three vice presidential slots vacant since last year.

Lowry comes to AVC (1) (Advanced Video Coding) The video compression techniques used in the H.264 standard, jointly developed by ISO and the ITU-T. See H.264.

(2) (Audio Visual C
 from Shasta College in Redding, where she has served as dean of business, math and technology since 1997. Prior to that, she was director of instruction and student services at Ivy Tech State College, Kokomo, in Indiana.

She has a master's degree in education from Indiana University, Southeast, and a bachelor's degree in medical technology from Indiana University. Lowry has also done post-graduate work at Indiana State University Indiana State University, main campus at Terre Haute; coeducational; est. 1865 as a normal school, became Indiana State Teachers College in 1929, gained university status in 1965. There is also a campus at Evansville (opened 1965). .

Benjamin currently works in human relations at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  in Santa Clarita, where he has served more than two years. He spent more than six years at Santa Barbara City College As of 2004, total enrollment of full-time and part-time students reached 17,000. It is currently led by President John Romo, who will be retiring at the end of Spring 2008 after seven years with the institution.  before that.

Benjamin earned a master's degree in human resources from Chapman University and a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of California, Santa Barbara History
The predecessor to UCSB, Santa Barbara State College, focused on teacher training, industrial arts, home economics, and foreign languages. Intense lobbying by an interest group in the City of Santa Barbara led by Thomas Storke and Pearl Chase persuaded the State
. He has an associate in arts degree from Monterey Peninsula College.
