College's success under coach Newton Chelette, the Marauders had won just one McDonald's Basketball Tournament.

You can raise that mark to two now in Chelette's ninth season at AVC (1) (Advanced Video Coding) The video compression techniques used in the H.264 standard, jointly developed by ISO and the ITU-T. See H.264.

Chelette has won 208 games in his successful career with the Marauders. Few of those had taken this much out his system.

With eight freshmen and two sophomores on the roster, the Marauders didn't fit the profile of a tournament champion, but that's what they are now.

In a December game with a March intensity to it, the Marauders outlasted Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  102-98 in the championship game of the McDonald's Tournament on Sunday.

``Man, I'll sleep well tonight,'' a hoarse Chelette said after his second tournament championship (the Marauders also won in 1992, also against Santa Monica). ``There's been a stigma, not so much recently, that we don't win this tournament. It's tough to win it.''

The Marauders' biggest moments down the stretch were delivered by freshmen. Sophomore John Burrell John Buster Burrell (born November 22, 1940 in Fort Worth, Texas) was an American football wide receiver in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Washington Redskins. He played college football for Rice University. , the tournament MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip. , did score 24 points. But Burrell thanked the always improving freshmen, including former Antelope Valley High School Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. With AVC down 93-92, Williams was dribbling at the top of the key in a play designed first to set up Burrell with a 3-pointer from the wing. But his defender backed off and Williams went with the next option, going strong to the basket for a dunk.

That strategy was foiled when help arrived in the paint, leaving Williams to hope for a foul. He got that, and a scooping layup that was converted into a 3-point play with 45.7 seconds left.

``When I made it, I thought `We're the champs,' '' said Williams, who scored 15 points.

That Williams went with the third option on the play shouldn't have been a surprise on a day the Marauders made giant steps with their execution.

``We got to the fifth and sixth options a few times,'' a bewildered Chelette said. ``We couldn't execute any better on offense.''

Kelly's 25 points weren't nearly as impressive as his pickpocketing of Santa Monica guard Alex Carcamo in the final seconds. With AVC protecting a 97-95 lead, Kelly missed a free throw but didn't give up as players from both sides were jockeying for the rebound.

Carcamo came away with the ball but Kelly, all 6-6, 265 pounds of him, gently stripped Carcamo and scored off the glass to help seal the win.

``(Carcamo) put the ball down low and I just got it. Like taking candy from a baby,'' Kelly said.

The Marauders found the championship trophy rather sweet as they posed for a team picture at the center of the floor. It's happened just eight previous times in the tournament's 46-year history.

``The freshmen are starting to realize it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia.
