AVC PRESIDENT TO TAKE NEW JOB IN EUREKA.

Departing Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  President Al Kurki said Friday he plans to take a temporary post at a college in Eureka five days before he officially leaves his Lancaster job.

Although Kurki's resignation from his $105,000 job at Antelope Valley college takes effect Aug. 29, he will use vacation time to begin work Aug. 24 as vice president of academic affairs at the College of the Redwoods
The College of the Redwoods should not be confused with the similarly named College of the Sequoias in the San Joaquin Valley town of Visalia, California.

``Temporary - that's the operative word,'' Kurki said of the assignment, which he expects will last six months. ``The most important thing is to make a clear separation from Antelope Valley College. It's an opportunity to meet new people and see a part of the state I've never seen before.''

Replacing Kurki at Antelope Valley will be Linda Spink, who had been vice president for instruction at 6,300-student Mohawk Valley Community College Mohawk Valley Community College is a two year college of the State University of New York located in Oneida County, New York in the United States. The college has campuses in Rome and Utica.  in upstate New York Upstate New York is the region of New York State north of the core of the New York metropolitan area. It has a population of 7,121,911 out of New York State's total 18,976,457. Were it an independent state, it would be ranked 13th by population. . She will begin her duties officially Aug. 30, but will actually arrive be introduced by Kurki to the college faculty Aug. 23.

She will make $103,000 a year.

Kurki said he expects to leave the Antelope Valley for Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern  the night of Aug. 23.

In addition to leaving Antelope Valley College, Kurki said he plans to resign from the numerous civic organizations to which he belongs, including the Domestic Violence Council, the Antelope Valley Board of Trade, the United Way of Los Angeles, and Children's Center of Antelope Valley.
