AVC OFFICIAL GOING TO FOUNDATION POST.

Mike Keenan, vice president of student services at Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties. , plans to retire in June and to immediately step into a new position as executive director of the Antelope Valley College Foundation.

The board of directors for the foundation - the college's fund-raising arm - chose Keenan for the post. Keenan will succeed Burt Dike, a retired United Way executive who has served as part-time foundation director since January 1997.

Keenan was chosen for the job partly due to his extensive community involvement, which has included raising money for other organizations, according to Dana LaMon, president of the foundation board.

His work with the American Cancer Society has been extensive. He's been a member of the group's board, served as president and co-hosted a telethon for four years.

Keenan is a recipient of the American Cancer Society Lifetime Achievement Award for long-term service in the fight against cancer.

He's a former member of the board of directors of the Antelope Valley Hospital Gift Foundation and past president of the California Community Colleges Chief Student Service Administrator's Association.

The AVC Foundation was established in 1991 to help further the mission of the college in serving the community. The foundation funds scholarships for students and supports special college projects.

The foundation is overseen by a 12-member board, made up of community members, as well as four ex-officials from the college. The federally recognized nonprofit organization has assets in excess of $300,000.
