Though trailing only 10-0 at halftime to the No. 8-ranked team in the state, the Marauders were unable to mount any offensive consistency to start the third quarter, allowing the Panthers two more scores. ``I have to hand it to Chaffey, they're a solid team,'' said offensive coordinator An offensive coordinator typically refers to the coach on a football team in the National Football League or College football who is in charge of the offense. This position aids the head coach by designing and scripting plays, delegating work to offensive position coaches during  Frank Blua. ``We've played a tough schedule to this point and we're not out of it yet. Nothing a few wins won't take care of.''

Cobb, meanwhile, turned in a solid performance.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound freshman from Las Vegas carried 10 times for 46 yards and had two touchdowns. His 31-yard run for a score in the third quarter was the longest run by a back this year. He also has returned nine kickoffs for 140 yards, including a long runback run·back

for a free safety, though opponents are starting to realize the Highland High freshman cannot be overlooked.

Freeman has led the team in tackles the last two weeks, getting nine in a win against College of the Desert and a career-best 13 against Chaffey.

He was given plenty of opportunities against Chaffey.

For most of the game, Freeman was chasing down the explosive Chris Jones and Andrae Perry, who combined for 322 yards and four touchdowns.

``Jeremiah is our quarterback on defense,'' said defensive-backs coach Joe Watts. ``He's a good kid to coach because he plays at full speed all the time. He's in the right place at the right time and has improved dramatically in our five games.''

--Big play defender: Provided Freeman continues his aggressive play, defensive back Junior Masco will have the opportunity to continue in making big plays in the AVC secondary.

Mascos' three interceptions, including one against Chaffey, puts him in the lead in the Foothill Conference in pickoffs.

``There's a flow to the secondary now,'' Watts said. ``The kids have developed a rhythm and they're playing well together.

``It's a freshman group, so they're going to get better with time. We haven't arrived, but we're getting there.''
