AVC NOTEPAD: AVC ATTEMPTING TO AVOID ANOTHER LETDOWN.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Daily News Staff Writer

From euphoria to eulogy. That's been the extreme between Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley

The first two of those benchmark wins, 102-98 over Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Bakersfield, now one of the state's top teams but an unknown quantity then, humbled the Marauders 81-70 three days after they avenged an earlier loss to Santa Monica in the finals of the AVC (1) (Advanced Video Coding) The video compression techniques used in the H.264 standard, jointly developed by ISO and the ITU-T. When AVC throttled rival Chaffey and former Newton Chelette assistant coach George Tarkanian, the Marauders did the unfathomable and lost by 12 at home to lowly Rio Hondo Rio Hondo may refer to:

Wednesday night, Antelope Valley outlasted Foothill Conference Northern Division co-leader Desert 95-92. Players hugged and hollered in the gym and the adjacent lobby area when it was over, but sophomore John Burrell John Buster Burrell (born November 22, 1940 in Fort Worth, Texas) was an American football wide receiver in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Washington Redskins. He played college football for Rice University.  warned of Saturday's regular-season finale at Cerro Coso and its perils.

A win in Ridgecrest would clinch a fourth straight Foothill Conference championship. A loss would well. . . . continue a disturbing trend.

``Sure, I am very happy right now. This is a big win for us,'' said Burrell, who has teamed with fellow sophomore Trevor Beal to win 50 games during their careers. ``But tomorrow I'm going to forget the whole thing and look towards Saturday.

``I know what (Cerro Coso) is going to be thinking. They want to knock off to cease, as from work; to desist.

AVC and prevent them from being the conference champions again. If we lose to Cerro Coso Saturday this win won't mean anything. Trev and me want to win another title and follow up the greatest season in school history with something special again.''

It wouldn't hurt the 20-9 Marauders to cap the regular season with their 21st win and all but secure at least a top-eight seed for the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  playoffs. That would equate into two potential home games before reaching the round of 16 and perhaps a second straight trip to the state tournament.

20/20 vision: A Chelette-coached Antelope Valley basketball team has yet to win fewer than 20 games, reaching that plateau with Wednesday's decision over the Roadrunners.

``That's called great assistant coaches, great players and a lot of luck,'' said Chelette, now sporting a nine-year record of 219-72.

Gift exchange: The Marauders honored Rosamond High's High Desert League champions during last Saturday's home game.

Coach Tim Atkerson's Roadrunners had a presentation of their own. Chelette and his assistant coaches Brad Wiggs and Barry Green Barry Green is a U.S. orchestral and solo double bass player and teacher. He was the principal bassist for the Cincinnati Symphony. ``That's one of the nicest things they could have done,'' said Chelette, who was touched by his own personal message of thanks from Rosamond.

Women's basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges. : Kristin Phillips is closing out her AVC career in style. The sophomore guard scored 28 points in the Marauders' 78-71 triple-overtime win at College of the Desert.

All but one of those points were via the 3-point shot. The nine 3's give Phillips a school record formerly held by Andi Boswell (seven) in 1995.

The Marauders clinched a berth in the Southern California playoffs after beating Citrus 76-62 on Wednesday.
