Krystal Quinn, a graduate of Summit View High of North Hollywood, is a rarity for the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
 women's track team.

Her athleticism allows her to excel in both the 400 meters and in pole vault pole vault

Track-and-field event consisting of a vault for height over a crossbar with the aid of a long pole. It became a competitive sport in the mid-19th century and was included in the first modern Olympic Games.
 - a combination rarely seen in track and field.

``She's developed a lot with the vault,'' coach Mark Covert said. ``It's a nice surprise and our vaulting coach (Bill Chilson) has done a good job with her.''

This year, Quinn broke the school's 400-meter record all four times she participated in the event. She also improved every time she has run, highlighted by a 57.32.

Pole vaulting pole vaulting: see track and field athletics.  as high as 11-6, Quinn is the top women's junior college pole vaulter in the State and is one inch shy of breaking Rachelle Sabo's record set in 2003.

The men's team lost Nick Saylor, a freshman graduate of Quartz Hill, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury a week ago during training.

``That loss hurt us a little bit,'' coach Covert said of the men's team. ``But we're deeper than we were a year ago, so we should still do well.''

Before the injury, Saylor has recorded top marks in the discus discus /dis·cus/ (dis´kus) pl. dis´ci   [L.] disk.

``He's making a significant change for the better,'' Carder said. ``He's focused and has shown significant improvement in a lot of aspects.''

Defensively, Carder is looking forward to the return of brothers John and Ngaluma'a Ikahihifo. John, a Highland of Palmdale graduate, will start on the defensive line and recorded 35 tackles and a sack in 2004. Ngaluma'a, a Luezinger of Lawndale graduate, will hold the inside linebacker spot and had 27 tackles and a forced fumble in 2004.

The team's quarterback situation will be carefully considered. The Maurader's found out the hard way how important depth is at quarterback when Justin Dion was sidelined after a 3-1 start.

The Maurader's went on to lose their last six games of the season.

Kyle Jenson (Vasquez High) and Ron Hamilton (Quartz Hill) will be the only returners to take snaps. Freshman John Taylor John Taylor, or Johnny Taylor may refer to: Academic figures

(Paraclete of Malibu) and Aaron Duncan will also vie for playing time.

Hamilton played the majority of the time during Dion's injury and completed 31 of 66 for 267 yards and two touchdowns in seven games.
