 basketball coach Newton Chelette said.

White's decision to play at AVC wasn't a slam dunk. It helped that his brother, Walter, who practiced with the Marauders last summer before having to miss the season with a broken ankle, will return, meaning both will play this season.

Walter adds depth to a frontcourt that already features two key returnees in Jonathan Holland and Brandon Murray, both of whom are bigger than 6-foot-9. Wendell figures to join Mike Webb, AVC's leading scorer last season, in the backcourt.

Wendell White, who is 6-5, 220 pounds, averaged more than 19 points and nine rebounds for Redondo Union High last season. ``I expect Wendell to come in and contribute right away,'' Chelette said. ``He's a good player and should fit in really well here.''
