AVC NOTEBOOK: AVC FOOTBALL TEAM EXPERIENCED, UPBEAT.

Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  football coach Brent Brent, outer borough (1991 pop. 226,100) of Greater London, SE England. The area is a rail and industrial center. Its manufactures include automobile parts, clocks and watches, and electrical equipment.  Carder has good reason for optimism heading into spring practice. With only eight sophomores last season, the Marauders should open the 2004 season with one of their most experienced teams ever.

``We feel very good about next year,'' Carder said. ``We've got some good football players on campus now and some good ones coming in.''

``You can't tell them apart,'' Carder said. ``Their teammates just call them `Twin.' ''

Four linebackers also are returning - Cory Gray, Cole Miyhira, Bobby Unger and Keith Noonan. Noonan is a 4.0 student.

``From day one this group just came back with a real determination to be a very good football team and I think we will be,'' Carder said. ``This is going to be exciting.''

Carder also took time to honor the past when former Marauders running back Jim Johnson was inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Johnson ran for AVC (1) (Advanced Video Coding) The video compression techniques used in the H.264 standard, jointly developed by ISO and the ITU-T. See H.264.

 in 1974-75 and shared the backfield with the Marauders' only other Hall of Famer, Tony Reed Tony Reed (born March 30, 1955) was an American college and professional football player. A star at Colorado, he played five professional seasons as a running back from 1977-1981. When he was in Kansas City he wore number 32. , in his second season. Johnson also punted for AVC and and played linebacker on goal-line defense.

``He had a desire and a competitiveness that kind of transcended what you'd normally expect,'' Carder said. ``He was a real, real good leader.''

Johnson was on both of the Marauders' state championship teams and ran for 1,109 yards in 1975. Carder said Johnson didn't have great speed but could find an extra gear when he had to.

``He got a lot faster on Saturday night.''

--Rogers leads track team to Bakersfield: Ryan Rogers earned a spot in the track and field state championships in Bakersfield by winning the 10,000 meters in the regionals by more than 30 seconds. Coach Mark Covert said he was surprised Rogers won so handily hand·i·ly
