AVC (29-2) and the sixth-seeded Hornets (21-8) will play in the community college equivalent to the NCAA's Elite Eight.

Fullerton does have a 5-2 series lead, but AVC topped Fullerton 61-58 in the second round of the Glendale Tournament on Nov. 19.

``They have a quality program,'' AVC coach John Taylor said. ``But our forwards will run with them.''

Taylor hopes to counter Fullerton's talent with his team's depth.

``(Fullerton has) a few good players,'' Taylor said. ``But we're running with 10 to 11 players at them a game. If they don't pay attention to somebody, they're in trouble.''

The Marauders open Foothill Conference play today at home against Chaffey with just one nonconference game played this season.

``The scheduling has been tough, and the rain certainly hasn't helped,'' first-year head coach John Livermont said. ``We've had to scramble.''

Livermont has also shaken things up. Out of 15 returners, all but seven have been cut.

``These guys here have dedicated themselves to work hard,'' Livermont said. ``They want to win, not treat this as recreation.''
