AVC'S POTENTIAL HASN'T BEEN TAPPED.

Byline: Art Avila Staff Writer

Assistant football coach Frank Blua is not worried about who Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
College's opponent is this week. The 4-1 Southwestern College Southwestern College is the name of several colleges in the United States:

  • Southwestern College, a four-year Methodist university in Winfield, Kansas
team is not what his focus is on.

``The focus is on ourselves. We haven't played well,'' Blua said.

The Marauders have come off two disappointing losses in which the offense has been unable to score and the defense has struggled late in the game.

``The team's disappointed. We realize we are a much better team than the record we have put up,'' Blua said. The offensive coordinator's concern has been how to improve the team on his sideline sideline

``It's getting everyone playing well consistently,'' Blua said. ``We are running the ball well. We just need to keep hammering at it.''

had a season-high 243 yards rushing and a touchdown in a losing effort last week against Chaffey College History

The school was first founded in Ontario in 1883, when city founders and brothers George and William Chaffey donated land and established an endowment for a private college.
. The Marauders were limited in the passing game when starting quarterback Justin Holtfreter left in the first half with an injury. Monte Gutowski replaced Holtfreter, finishing with only 24 yards passing.

Coach Brent Carder said the loss against Chaffey was an extension of the loss the previous week at College of the Desert. ``We played the same way. We pulled within a touchdown and lost it,'' Carder said. He said it was a combination of mistakes on both sides of the ball.

``Unfortunately we didn't capitalize on Cap´i`tal`ize on`

good field position,'' Carder said. ``We get decent field position and we're just not getting the job done. We are not playing consistently at all.''

Anderson has said that opponents are focusing on the Marauders running game, but the offense has been trying to mix it up with the passing game.

``We have a bunch of guys A Bunch of Guys (BOGs), or Group of Guys (GOGs) are terms used by counter-terrorism officials to refer to small, self-organizing terrorist cells.[1] BOGs typically have little to no contact with global terrorist groups like al Qaeda, so they independently plan and  that have their moments. We kind of spread it out,'' Blua said. ``(Anderson) is pretty consistent. We just haven't given him the ball a lot. He has the ability.'' Anderson is ranked third in the Foothill Conference with 138.6 yards a game and leads the team with 706 yards and seven touchdowns.

Blua said the team is disappointed in its record and knows it should be better. ``Everyone shares the blame for the poor spots and shares the good times,'' he said.

Carder said fourth-quarter mistakes have also hurt the Marauders. ``We are in good enough shape physically. It's a mental thing,'' he said. ``We expected to beat (Desert) and didn't. It put us in a down.''

Many of the players have said that it is not a lack of endurance late in the game, but mistakes. ``I feel we are really well-conditioned. Probably better than most teams in the conference,'' defensive end David Fetters fet·ter

said. ``Since we start strong in the second half, we are ahead of them.''

Holtfreter agreed the mistakes are not a result of the team wearng down physically. ``It's a lot easier to think when you are not tired. We just need to come out strong in the first half,'' Holtfreter said.

``There's not a team in our conference we can't beat,'' Blua said. ``And there's not a team in our conference that can't beat us. We haven't played well the last two weeks. If we play well, we have a chance to beat anyone in our league.''

Carder said there has been a change in attitude among the players early in the week. ``There is a feeling of determination,'' he said. ``The players know what we have to do.''

A strong start against Southwestern would prove that.
