AUTOTOTE names corporate controller.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1996--A. Lorne Weil, Chairman and CEO of AUTOTOTE CORPORATION [NASDAQ/NMS:TOTE], today announced that DeWayne E. Laird has been named Corporate Controller.

In that position, Mr. Laird will have responsibility for all accounting functions and will report to William Luke, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Mr. Weil said, "DeWayne is an exceptionally strong, hands-on manager with more than 20 years' experience in expense control, revenue enhancement, budgeting and forecasting and accounting and regulatory compliance."

Mr. Laird held a variety of senior positions at Philadelphia Suburban Corporation, a diversified New York Stock Exchange company, from 1984 to 1991.

Specific responsibilities included chief operating officer of an information services subsidiary, chief financial officer and treasurer of the parent company and vice president and treasurer of a utility subsidiary. More recently, he has been president of Laird Associates, a CPA firm providing closely held and public companies with financial and operational consulting services.

Mr. Laird, a U.S. Navy veteran, has a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Delaware and began his career at KPMG Peat Marwick in audit in its Philadelphia office.
