Hemingway's agent Graham Kaye said the Coroner's Office told him that she might have died as a result of an epileptic seizure.

and took medicine for it,'' Kaye said. It was not clear whether Hemingway had been taking the prescribed drugs, although she had complained about being tied to them, Kaye said.

``Margaux wanted to be free of any kind of dependence and that included any medication she might have to take,'' Kaye said. ``She was a real class act. Everybody should have one friend like Margaux.''

Hemingway made her Hollywood debut in ``Lipstick'' in 1976, but her career then slipped with roles in such movies as ``Killer Fish'' in 1979, ``They Call Me Bruce?'' in 1982 and ``Inner Sanctum'' in 1991.

After years of obscurity and living in the shadow of younger sister Mariel Hemingway, the elder Hemingway was poised to rebound, having just shot a new nature TV series, ``Wild Guide,'' for the Westinghouse Broadcasting Group. Hemingway also was launching a new perfume and clothing line.

Funeral arrangements had not been made Tuesday.
