AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA HONOR 1992 SUBARU SVX
NEW LUXURY PERFORMANCE COUPE CAPTURES AWARDS
CHERRY HILL, N.J., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The new all-wheel drive Subaru SVX luxury performance coupe has been singled out for its excellence from amongst the many cars introduced this year by the editors of four prestigious magazines.
"We knew we had a winner from day one," said Ton Gibson, president of Subaru of America. "Now our opinion has been confirmed by the most discriminating critics in the automotive media."
Automobile Magazine, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science and Automotive Industries all included the Subaru SVX in their lists of outstanding new products for the 1992 model year.
"The SVX was in its element," wrote Rich Ceppos, Automobile Magazine executive editor of its 1992 Automobile All Star. "...stable and serene and as confident as any grand touring machine produced in Germany." The Subaru SVX joins nine other 1992 vehicles on the magazine's fifth- annual All Star list in its January 1992 issue.
Four unique cars were selected by Popular Mechanics for its Design & Engineering Awards. Writing in the January 1992 issue, the editors said, "Subaru has always dared to be different, but never so attractively as this. With its fighter-pilot cockpit...this high-tech coupe is definitely individualistic."
"Subaru Surprise," is the Popular Science headline in the December 1991 issue which highlights the Subaru SVX as one of the year's 100 greatest achievements in science and technology in its annual "Best of What's New" feature.
Automotive Industries in December was simple and direct: "When our vehicle comparisons were complete, the virtues of Subaru's new luxury/performance car made it our unanimous choice as this year's purest engineering effort, and worthy recipient of Automotive Industries' 1992 Engineering Award."
The Subaru SVX combines a high-performance package including full-time all-wheel drive, anti-lock-equipped four-wheel disc brakes, 230-horsepower six-cylinder engine and computer-controlled four-speed transmission with the luxury of automatic climate control, power windows/locks/mirrors, remote-controlled security system, AM/FM/cassette audio system and available leather upholstery and sunroof.
Its combination of luxury and performance comes clothed in an aerodynamically honed body featuring a unique "window-in-window" design providing a relatively large amount of glass and fully-retracing door windows.
The complete Subaru range, Justy, Loyale, Legacy and SVX, is sold nationwide through 730 franchised dealers. The SVX, like all Subaru products, comes with a three-year/36,000 warranty and a five- year/unlimited-mileage corrosion warranty. In addition, owners of the luxury performance coupe receive 24-hour emergency roadside assistance.
