AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRIES NAMED FULL-SERVICE SUPPLIER BY FORD

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Automotive Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq-NNM: AIHI) is the first supplier of interior trim to receive the Full-Service Supplier (FSS) designation from Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F), according to F.F. "Rick" Sommer, president and CEO of Automotive Industries, Inc.

The FSS certification recognizes Automotive Industries' capabilities in developing and manufacturing high quality interior systems while maximizing product benefits and minimizing costs.

As a full-service supplier, Automotive Industries will have an expanded role in product development and coordination of Tier 2 supplier involvement, and will continue to work with Ford's core technology group to develop ongoing practices and procedures to support efficient program management processes.

"We are excited about Ford's recognition of our complete product development and program management capabilities," said Sommer. "We feel privileged to earn this designation during a period when automakers are very focused on reducing their Tier 1 supply base."

The certification process involved a rigorous evaluation of Automotive Industries' capabilities including program management, design and engineering, research and development, testing, manufacturing, and facility reviews.

The Ford FSS program seeks to increase product quality and customer satisfaction, improve engineering and manufacturing cost efficiencies, minimize engineering changes and shorten product development time. This will be accomplished by identifying a network of technically capable Tier 1 suppliers to help process major programs to specific Ford quality, cost and engineering targets.

Automotive Industries is a leading product developer and manufacturer of high quality interior trim and underhood systems and components for car, mini-van and light truck original equipment manufacturers. Revenues for the first quarter ended April 1, 1995 and the year ended Dec. 31, 1994 were $188.7 million and $512.8 million, respectively. With operating headquarters in Rochester Hills, Mich., the company has facilities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England and Sweden employing more than 7,500 people.

Automotive Industries, Inc.'s parent, Automotive Industries Holding, Inc., is traded on the Nasdaq under the symbol AIHI.
