AUTOALLIANCE INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATES A NEW BEGINNING

AUTOALLIANCE INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATES A NEW BEGINNING
FLAT ROCK, Mich., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- It was five years ago

today that the first Mazda MX-6 drove off the assembly line in Flat Rock. Since then, more than 800,000 high-quality Mazda MX-6, 626 and Ford Probe models have emerged from the line at AutoAlliance International. Formerly known as Mazda Motor Manufacturing USA Corporation, AutoAlliance became a joint venture between Mazda Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) on June 30, 1992.
As the company marked the occasion today, it also held a ceremony at which AutoAlliance board members, management, union officials and community officials gathered to unveil the new AutoAlliance logo on the front of the company's administration building. Today also marked the first official meeting of the new board of directors of AutoAlliance held at the company's Flat Rock facility.
"Ford is happy to be an equal partner in AutoAlliance -- a truly international company," said Wayne Booker, chairman. "With exciting products, a highly trained and motivated work force, and the synergy of an international management team, AutoAlliance has the right ingredients to stand out in this tough and competitive global market."
"As we begin this exciting new phase in our company history, let's pause to reflect on the hard work and efforts of many people -- our employees and the UAW, our suppliers, and our parent companies -- that have brought us to this moment," said Mamoru Takebayashi, president and chief executive officer of AutoAlliance International.
"But even as we look back, we can also look ahead. In doing so, we see that we must continue to excel in our dual role of building high- quality automobiles and building a solid, progressively better relationship with our community," Takebayashi added.
AutoAlliance began production of the Mazda MX-6 on Sept. 1, 1987, followed by the Ford Probe in January 1988. Production of the Mazda 626 sedan began in September 1989.
The company employs over 3,600 workers, including 3,000 production employees represented by the United Auto Workers. It recently completed its first major model change of all three vehicles. AutoAlliance now produces all Mazda MX-6 and 626 models sold in North America, and is the sole production site of the Ford Probe. The company will also begin production of right- and left-hand drive export model Probes next year.
