AUTO FIRMS ENRICH STATE ECONOMY.

California-based auto companies contribute greatly to the state's economy by employing 100,000 people who earn a combined $4.4 billion annually, a new study shows.

UCLA's Anderson School Anderson School may refer to:
  • UCLA Anderson School of Management, a professional business school in Los Angeles
  • The Anderson School, a K-8 public school for intellectually gifted, New York City
 of Business found that wages for employees of these companies - from administrative to sales to workers in the state's one manufacturing plant - averaged $57,400 in 1995, excluding benefits. It represents the second-highest average wage in the state. Legal professionals - including judges and lawyers - averaged $60,140.

The state's ports, distribution facilities and advertisers also benefited from the in-state auto companies, the study said. For example, 22 percent of the money spent on automobile national advertising campaigns was spent in California.
