OXNARD - Flights from Oxnard Airport Oxnard Airport (IATA: OXR, ICAO: KOXR, FAA LID: OXR) is a public airport located one mile (1.6 km) west of the central business district (CBD) of Oxnard, a city in Ventura County, California, USA.  to Phoenix - the only out-of-state flights from the airport in a decade - may be possible under a plan that won tentative approval, despite some neighbors' concerns.

In a 2-1 vote, with two members absent, a divided Oxnard Airport Authority recommended that an Arizona-based airline be allowed to create two daily flights from Oxnard to Phoenix.

The decision now moves to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors The examples and perspective in this article or section may represent an unduly geographically limited view of the subject.

Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long and authority Chairman Walter Calhoun, a public representative, voted for the recommendation. Oxnard City Councilman Bedford Pinkard voted against it.

The two other members of the commission, Supervisor John Flynn and Oxnard Councilman John Zaragosa, were absent.

If approved, the flights would begin on Sept. 6. Mesa Airlines officials said a round-trip ticket Noun 1. round-trip ticket - a ticket to a place and back (usually over the same route)

Murphy estimated that the flights would bring the airport approximately $24,000 in revenue per year. They would be the first in a decade to fly out of state from Oxnard.

Oxnard Airport currently has six flights a day to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , all operated by United Express. Three years ago, the airport had 32 flights a day, but American Eagle pulled out, leaving only the United shuttle flights.

``The airport authority felt this was not an expansion because the existing facilities were already available from when American Eagle left,'' Murphy said.

Some residents who attended the meeting criticized both the decision and the lack of attendance of authority members.

``I was really disappointed that half of the panel decided not to show up for a meeting that has a lot of impact on those of us who live around the airport,'' said Roger Barnes, an Oxnard resident.

``If they are going to mess with things, at least they could do it in person.''
